My Thoughts

My Thoughts on the Movie
9 Animation films out 10 in recent years are usually created by two companies - Pixar or Dreamworks. There is an established list of CGI Animation film series - Toy Story, Cars, Shrek, and Madagascar just to name a few. Because the whole load of CGI films, it's very hard to stand out from the crowd and create something great. Kung Fu Panda managed to do that in recent years, and so has this film - Despicable me.

I'll start with the story. It's a spoof super villain sort of story, where the main character, Gru, is a super villain who wants to get noticed. All the younger villains are performing more crimes than he is at his old age, so he hatches a plot to steal a device to shrink the moon. It's not as easy as that however, as he is forced to adopt three kids to infiltrate another villain's hideout to get said gadget. Yes, you can probably see where this is going.

When I recently watched the film, it didn't have very good first impression. It just seemed like it was going to be like any other CGI film I watched. However, I give it time and it did deliver. This film is like frying an egg. At first very little happens, but then everything happens at once and your pleased on what you end up with.

The Voice acting is one of the reasons where I enjoyed this film. Guru, played by Steve Carell, does a fantastic job of voicing the main character. The accent he uses just makes it sound any other bond villain, which makes it believable that he was once one of the world's top villains. The three girls, played by Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier and Elsie Fisher come off as a natural group of kids, who just want parents to love them, their dialogue come off natural and makes you feel sorry for them throughout the movie.

And I haven't talked about one of the better parts of the film - the minions. We are love some humour in a film, and boy do the minions deliver humour. Throughout the film you get little segments of the minions doing various work and antics, and work their way into the whole film quite well. It's worth watching the mini-movies involving the minions on the DVD special features. Very funny!

A film that has heart, great action packed scenes, and very funny at times, it seems to have everything. It may not have the same amount of polish as Pixar Films, but has a great stab of doing it. And the astonishing thing? This is Illumination Entertainment's first feature film!
